Preparing a motorbike for transport starts with choosing suitable anchor points and straps. With everything to hand, you can work methodically and check the tie-downs before setting off.
Read the transport instructions for your motorbike and your trailer or vehicle. They specify the tie-down points and procedure for your equipment.
Before loading the motorbike
Check the ramp, supporting surface and anchor points. Prepare the straps and inspect the webbing, hooks and mechanism. If you need help loading the motorbike, arrange it before you start.
1. Position the motorbike as instructed by the manufacturer
Use the ramp and supports designed for your equipment. Position the motorbike as specified for transport and keep it stable while preparing the tie-downs.
2. Prepare the straps and anchor points
Use the securing points specified by the motorbike and transport vehicle manufacturers. Check that the hooks fit properly and that the webbing is not twisted or resting against edges that could damage it.
Falcon 700 packs include soft loops for preparing tie-downs at points where you prefer to avoid direct contact with the metal hook. Check their positioning before tensioning.
3. Adjust and check the tie-downs
Follow the strap arrangement and tensioning procedure specified for your motorbike. Check every strap and anchor point before setting off. The number of straps and their positioning depend on the complete load you are transporting.
4. Keep the webbing contained
With conventional straps, gather and secure excess webbing. With a STRAPTOR retractable ratchet strap, unused webbing stays inside the mechanism. Work without loose lengths around the load.
5. Check the load during the journey
Check the tie-downs at stops, following your equipment's instructions. Stop somewhere safe if you notice the load moving or a strap needing attention.
When you finish: release and retract
When it is safe to remove the tie-downs, release the mechanism and guide the webbing as it returns to the reel. Store the straps dry and inspected for the next outing.
